The Open Doors Scholarship Program

Program Overview:

The TDF Open Doors Scholarship is an exclusive program in which only 22 schools in all of NYC participate. It is connected to a single teacher at a given school who is selected to spearhead the program amongst his students. In this program, eight students are selected to work with a mentor - a famous actor, director, or writer in the Broadway, film, and television world. Together, they see six Broadway shows over the course of the year, respond and reflect on these shows in discussions and in writing, and when they graduate from the program, each student receives $150 in discount theater tickets each year for the next four years. This is to encourage a life-long love for theater, and to share that joy with others. Our Broadway mentor is Alex Dinelaris, who is currently working on a musical about Gloria Estefan, and he also recently won a Golden Globe for writing the movie Birdman.

Meeting Schedule: This program meets once a month, usually on Wednesdays, to see a matinee show on Broadway.
