At CSSJ, Physical Education classes will be modeled after the Physical Best Health-Related Fitness Education Curriculum. Classes will be held in both the fitness center and multipurpose room of the school, which have state-of-the-art Cybex cardio and cable machines. Students will learn how to set realistic fitness goals, and achieve them by participating in a wide array of activities throughout the school year. These activities include circuit training, weight training, cardio respiratory endurance training, yoga, and group games. Central themes will include team-work, critical thinking, problem solving, and good sportsmanship. Students are required to keep a daily log of their individual and group exercises.
Students will learn what it takes to achieve overall wellness, in part by developing lifelong fitness habits. This will enable them to live a physically active and healthy lifestyle long after high school. Students will learn the vital role that fitness, proper nutrition, good sleep habits and exercise routines play in maintaining a healthy weight, which ultimately contributes in a positive manner to their health and wellness.
