This course is designed to be an exciting, yet challenging, learning experience that explores the numerous dimensions of the Visual Arts, inquires about cultural, historical, and personal reasons for making art, and seeks ways in which the Visual Arts can be applied to and bring about positive outcomes in the realm of social justice.  Students develop skills and become familiar with materials, methods, and topics that are relevant to the Visual Arts.  Students also learn to discuss, analyze, and critique art in historical, cultural, and personal contexts.

  • Why is art relevant to you?

  • Why do people make art?

  • In what ways are the Visual Arts apparent in your everyday life?

  • What are some functions of art in our society?

  • In what ways has art facilitated social change?
